M-STEP BEGINS IN APRIL
After spring break students in grades 3 – 6 will be begin taking the Michi-
gan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP. The M-STEP is a
21st Century test given online each spring and is designed to gauge how
well students are mastering state standards. These standards broadly out-
line what should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter
the workplace, career education training, and college.
M-STEP tests for grades 3 – 8 include:
English Language Arts (Grades 3 – 8): computer-adaptive assessment,plus a performance task in grades 5 and 8.
Mathematics (Grades 3 – 8): computer-adaptive assessment, plus per-formance tasks in each grade 3 through 8.
Science (Grades 4 and 7): fixed-form online assessment
Social Studies (Grades 5 & 8): fixed-form online assessment
M-STEP results, when combined with classroom work, report cards, and
local district assessments (NWEA), and other tools, offer a comprehensive
view of student progress and achievement. Please see page 8 in our news-
