From the Principal

Dear Crissman Families,

Mrs. PapastamatisMy name is Sofia Papastamatis and it is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of Crissman Elementary. Crissman Elementary has a rich history of academic excellence that is a direct result of the partnership between the staff, parents and community. I look forward to joining this wonderful community and working with you as we continue our journey of educational excellence.

I am proud to say I am a Utica Community Schools graduate and educator. I graduated from Eisenhower High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a language arts and math endorsement from Oakland University. My love of learning and reading led me to earn a Masters of Arts Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University. I then went on to complete my Educational Specialist Degree in Administration from Oakland University.

As an experienced principal in Utica Community Schools, I have served as the principal of Plumbrook Elementary for five years. Prior to being a principal, I was a teacher at Browning Elementary. In addition to being a lifelong educator, I am also a wife and a mother to three wonderful children who keep me very busy when I am not working.

My educational philosophy is to establish an environment in which all students can and will reach their greatest potential.  I believe that together we will continue to build a community in which the students feel confident to take educational risks.  A great education is one that works in partnership to build curiosity and creative thinking through trust and collaboration. I understand that communication, cooperation and collaboration between the home and school are vital to student achievement; therefore, I look forward to our partnership in the years to come.  Together, we will continue to foster a safe and nurturing school that helps lead students to a promising life-long educational path.

I wish you many more sunny days and encourage you to continue to build those beautiful memories with your children this summer (I cannot wait to hear all about them). In August, you will receive an email from me highlighting the important dates and activities for the 2017-2018 school year. Please feel free to stop into the office and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you and your

child (ren).  Go Cougars!
